Brazilian football legend Pele was moved to the intensive care unit after his cancer treatment failed to produce the desired results from chemotherapy.
According to the news agency Reuters, the Brazilian newspaper Folha d's Paulo reported that the legendary footballer suffering from cancer is being given painkillers after the chemotherapy did not get the desired results.
The 82-year-old Pele, one of the greatest players in football history, was transferred to hospital this week to be evaluated for cancer treatment and was later diagnosed with an infection.
There was no immediate statement from Pele's manager and the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.
The medical report released yesterday said that the antibiotic given to Pele has had a positive effect and the condition is improving.
The football legend was diagnosed with colon cancer and had a tumor removed from his colon in September 2021 and has been receiving hospital treatment on a regular basis.
The newspaper Folha ds Paulo reported that the chemotherapy had been suspended and that Pele was receiving medical attention to rest and to be given medication to reduce pain and breathing difficulties.
The report stated that Pele had general swelling and heart problems when he was admitted to hospital this week, and a similar report was made by ESPN Brasil.
In a post on social networking site Instagram, Pele said he was in hospital for his monthly visit and thanked fans for positive messages.
The former Brazil star also released a picture of himself in a building in Qatar where the FIFA World Cup 2022 is underway and another building with the words 'Get well soon'.
Brazil fans also displayed similar messages at Qatar's Lucille Stadium following the team's 1-0 defeat to Cameroon.
